

Claire Milton
Claire Milton, Q.C., ICD.D is University Secretary, Senior Director Legal Services at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Claire joined Saint Mary’s in 2018 as University Secretary, after a law career in private practice and as General Counsel and Secretary for a well-known Canadian public company in the consumer products industry. She was named to her current position at the University in 2020. In 2021, Claire was also appointed Privacy Officer. She functions as the university's general counsel.
Claire provides governance and legal advice to the Board of Governors and the senior leadership team of the University. Claire has been recognized by Best Lawyers® in the field of corporate governance, and within the University works as a facilitator and advisor on a wide range of organizational matters. She holds the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors, and was awarded her Queen’s Counsel designation by the Province of Nova Scotia in 2010.
Claire graduated from Saint Mary’s University with a B.A. Honours in English Literature with a second major in French Literature, and earned her law degree from Dalhousie (now the Schulich School of Law) in 1990.
