Conference Description

The 2022 Canadian University Board Association (CUBA) Annual Conference will be a virtual learning and networking opportunity.  CUBA exists to improve the governance of Canadian universities. It serves as a means of mobilizing the leadership of university boards to support and develop policies and programs that enhance the ability of boards to discharge their fiduciary duties and to be accountable for the overall direction of their universities.

Conference Overview

The program begins at 11:00am EST on April 29, 2022, with a panel discussion on the 'Academic Mission to the Future’ moderated by Coro Strandberg, President of Strandberg Consulting. The panel includes Dr. Elizabeth Cannon, Dr. Daniel Doz, Dr. David Sylvester, and Alex Usher, who will participate in the discussion of the role and future of universities in society.

Our Keynote Presentation will begin at 1:10pm EST featuring Dr. Martha Piper and Dr. Indira Samarasekera, authors of NERVE: Lessons on Leadership from two women who came first.  Sharing their personal and professional stories, they offer guidance for leaders of every age and at every stage of their career.

Our second session will follow to take a deeper dive into EDI questions. Dr. Martha Piper will be joined by Dr. Jacqueline Ottmann, Dr. Mohamed Lachemi, and Dr. Gervan Fearon to discuss ‘Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion – People Who Came First’. The panel will be moderated by Dr. Rohini Banerjee. Universities continue to prioritize and evolve their EDI goals and are implementing initiatives to increase engagement of under-represented, equity-deserving groups to create inclusive and diverse education environments.

The conference will be rounded out by Networking sessions for Board Professionals and Board Chairs and Vice Chairs and concludes with the CUBA AGM.
